Frequently Asked Questions

There are so many fillers. Which ones should I consider?
Dermal fillers are widely used, and becoming more specialized in their applications. Different attributes of fillers are useful for different target areas. Here is the comprehensive choice of dermal fillers offered by Spa Radiance Medical:

Belotero is a premium hyaluronic acid filler that provides soft and even replenishment under the skin. It can be used to reduce under eye circles, fill fine lines and wrinkles, enhance lip plumpness, and smooth vertical lip lines.

Juvederm Ultra XC is an FDA-approved injectable gel made primarily of hyluronic acid. Juvederm fillers add natural volume and hydration in delicate areas where maximum silkiness is appropriate. It is appropriate for moderate lines, such as smile lines around the eyese, marionette lines, and lip enhancement.

Juvederm Ultra Plus XC is an FDA-approved injectable gel with a thicker consistency, which provides dramatic and longer-lasting results. It is ideal for moderate to deep lines around the nose and mouth. Your trained technician can recommend which Juvederm product is appropriate for your treatment.

Juvederm Voluma XC is the first and only FDA-approved filler for the cheek area, which creates contours in the middle of the face as it gently lifts the skin. Juvederm Voluma XC is excellent for filling in the flattened cheeks that naturally come with aging. It contains lidocaine, which helps numb the treatment area during the procedure; results from Juvederm Voluma XC last up to two years.

Restylane Silk is FDA approved for lips and lines around the mouth. Restylane dissolves back into the body over time and is a gentle filler ideal for first-time users and those with special sensitivity. Restylane Silk contains a lower concentratration of HA, reducing the risk of swelling, particularly in delicate skin areas. Results may last three to four months, allowing users to “try out” a filler before using another product for longer results.

Radiesse is a gel containing microscopic spheres of calcium that both adds volume and stimulates your body to produce more of its own natural, plumping collagen. Results from Radiesse can last a year or more.

Perlane is a volume solution to address multiple facial issues. It is popular for restoring facial volume, temporal hollows, and minimizing scarring. Perlane has larger gel particles which make it most effective for plumping deep folds and wrinkles, augmenting the chin, and softening acne scars. Perlane results last six months to a year, and is fully biodegradable.

What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable serums that replenish the body’s natural hyaluronic acid, often called HA, to rehydrate the skin and restore its plump and smooth appearance. Our body’s natural production of HA diminishes with age, UV exposure, smoking, and other environmental factors. Fillers replace HA or collagen back into the skin to restore its youthful look.

Why do fillers help with wrinkles?
Our body naturally produces collagen and HA to hydrate the skin. Wrinkles emerge when less collagen and HA is produced, causing the skin to sag with less structural support. Injecting HA fillers back into targeted areas helps to replace the support and smooth the skin where lines, scars, or wrinkles appear.

What is the treatment like?
One of our highly trained Spa Radiance Medical professionals, a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner, will consult with you to determine facial areas you would like to improve, and suggest which fillers may be best for individual treatment areas. After application of ice or numbing cream, they will use a very fine syringe needle to inject the appropriate prescription pharmaceutical filler into that area. A filler treatment usually takes less than an hour for one treatment area. Results are visible, immediate and impressive, and usually lasts for six months or more, depending upon the filler and treatment area.

What facial areas should I consider for fillers?
Dermal fillers are excellent for smoothing crow’s feet around the eyes, restoring the cupid’s bow on the upper lip, uplifting corners of the mouth, and softening smile lines from the nose to the mouth and marionette lines downward from mouth to chin. Fillers can also be used to restore plumpness to the cheekbones and contour the face.

Does it hurt to get fillers?
Numbing cream and ice can be used to minimize discomfort, which is momentary. The very fine needles prick at the moment of injection, and feel cold as they enter the skin. Once the needle is removed, there is very little to no pain. Although swelling or bruising can occasionally occur for a few days, the visible evidence of the injection is minimal.

What’s the difference between fillers and relaxants like Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are used to relax individual facial muscles, like the furrows on the forehead, frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet beside the eyes. Fillers ‘fill in’ the lines and contour the face, adding plumpness to the skin on top of the muscles. Fillers and injectable relaxants are often used in conjunction to restore a naturally youthful appearance. Your Spa Radiance Medical professional will recommend a personalized treatment plan that may include the fillers and injectable treatments most appropriate for your needs.

Injectable Muscle Treatments (Often Used Along With Fillers)

Botox is one of the most popular anti-aging treatments in the world. Botox smoothes away wrinkles by weakening the underlying muscles that repetitively form wrinkles. Botox injectable treatments last up to four months.

Dysport is an injectable treatment that temporarily blocks the signals that particular nerves send to muscles in targeted areas, while leaving the untargeted muscles free for normal facial expression. Dysport is used to reduce contraction of muscles that cause frown lines and wrinkles.
